Social media enables all of us to talk to people quickly and disseminate information at the speed of hitting the enter key. When you sing a Twitter song into the Twittersphere…who is hearing your Tweet? If you Tweet into a forest, and no one is around to hear it, did you really even Tweet?
Lately I have seen many recruiters, sales professionals, businesses and nonprofit organizations Tweet without a direction or a hashtag. Clicking on their name, I can clearly see they have 16, 25, or 50 followers. Just like Facebook or LinkedIn, Twitter is not useful unless you have people who are “following” you. You need to Tweet to get yourself heard…but if no one is around to hear you…your Tweets are not being heard!
Tweet – and follow. Watch what other people Tweet. See how they incorporate hashtags (#LoveLansing, #HR, #MIJobs) into their 140 character statements. Follow people in your industry. Follow those you are trying to reach out to! How do you find them? Find one, and then look at their followers and following…follow those people too!
Be sure to develop your Twitter profile before starting this process! When you follow someone, they typically get an alert email with your profile and name, and then they can choose to follow you back. If what you’re doing is relevant or interesting to that person, typically they will follow back. If they don’t, try Tweeting at them to let them know you’re interested and engaged.
Lists are immensely helpful when deciding who to follow. There are many great lists that people create to streamline their Twitterverse. Check out who is listed and follow them as well! Local lists are great networking tools.
Use an http://bit.ly/ or http://ow.ly to create a short link to your job description! Put this link in your Tweet!
A solid recruiter Tweet should provide a bit of information on the title and location, a link to the job description, and hashtags to extend the shelf life of your Tweet.
Dream is gorgeous when the fact is unmerciful. Sometimes fate is in we have hors , but we only can't alter it.
