I saw someone post on Facebook the other day that they don’t normally like to give a free plug but ABC company did such a great job on their project. My first thought was, why would you not normally give a free plug? If you work with someone who provides outstanding service I think you owe it to your family and friends to let people know. The same goes for a company that sucks. Both of these cases are great information to have. Word of mouth has always been the method of recommendation I listen to most. I trust the opinions of my friends. That is part of why we are probably friends!
I am not shy about sharing when I get great service and I try to push as much business towards those companies as I can so they stick around and are there for when I need them again. Everyone who knows me knows I am a hug fan of LL Bean. I buy most of my camping gear and 90% of my clothes from them. Over the years I can’t even imagine how much of my hard earned dollars I have sent to Freeport Maine. Their stuff is the best, but if there is a problem they fix it without question, every time. Quality and service is the dream combination and rare today. Chrysler (specifically Dodge) is on the opposite end of the spectrum. The products I have had experience with in the past were of poor quality and the service and response to problems was even worse. Because of this I will never buy another of their products and am not shy about sharing that opinion with others.
My point with both of these examples is, don’t hold back your opinions, especially when someone asks for it. Word of mouth has been put on steroids now with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. It really widens the circle of friends you can solicit opinions and feedback from. So if you are running a business, take this as an opportunity, or a warning. Bring your “A” game and could see the word spread like wildfire. Bring that weak stuff around here and you might as well sit back and watch the pretty colors go by as you circle the drain, because you may not be around for long.
